Former Utah Congresswoman Mia Love has passed away at the age of 49, her family confirmed on Sunday.
A statement shared on Love’s Twitter/X account late Sunday night announced her peaceful passing at home, surrounded by loved ones.
“In the midst of a celebration of her life and an avalanche of happy memories, Mia quietly slipped the bands of mortality and, as her words and vision always did, soared heavenward,” the statement read.
A Courageous Battle
Love had been battling brain cancer, and earlier this year, her family revealed that the disease was no longer responding to treatment. Since the announcement, an outpouring of support and well wishes had flooded in from colleagues, friends, and admirers.
A Historic Legacy
Mia Love made history as the first Black Republican woman elected to the U.S. Congress, serving as Utah’s 4th Congressional District representative from 2015 to 2019. During her tenure, she was known for her strong advocacy for conservative values, fiscal responsibility, and the American Dream.
Tributes from Leaders
Utah Governor Spencer Cox paid tribute to Love’s remarkable impact, calling her “a true trailblazer and visionary leader.” He added, “Her courage, grace, and unwavering belief in the American Dream inspired countless Utahns. Her legacy leaves a lasting, positive impact on our state. We will miss her deeply.”
Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson, a close friend, expressed her sorrow, saying, “Mia Love was a fearless leader, a history-maker, and a woman of deep conviction. Utah—and our nation—are better because of her courageous work and unwavering belief in the American Dream.”
Senator Mike Lee also honored Love, urging others to “join me in praying for the Love family and remembering Mia Love as a friend, trailblazer, congresswoman, wife, mother, and patriot.”
Mia Love leaves behind a legacy of resilience, dedication, and historic achievements that will continue to inspire generations to come.
