During his next trip to China, Russian President Vladimir Putin will have crucial strategic discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Beijing’s ambassador to Moscow said on Friday, according to Russian state news agency TASS.

“At the summit, our leaders will debate all pertinent and important matters relating to our bilateral partnership as well as how we operate strategically on the global stage. This is crucial, said Zhang Hanhui.

Putin’s trip to China has dates fixed, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, but they haven’t been made public.

Putin acknowledged that he had enthusiastically accepted Xi’s offer to visit China in October for the Belt and Road Forum during a meeting with Chinese officials on September 20.

Some background: Ahead of Putin’s visit to Beijing, Russia and China have praised their collaboration. The senior diplomats from Russia and China met on Monday in Moscow to discuss enhancing their international partnership.

In his opening remarks, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov assured his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi that the two nations would continue their “well-coordinated work” at the UNGA and other summits and high-level meetings.
