Georgia State Senator Colton Moore Thrown to Ground While Attempting to Enter House Chamber
Georgia State Senator Colton Moore was forcibly prevented from entering the state House chamber on Thursday, January 16, leading to a dramatic confrontation with law enforcement. The incident resulted in Senator Moore being pushed to the ground and subsequently arrested, sparking widespread attention and debate.
According to reports, the confrontation occurred as Moore attempted to enter the House chamber despite being indefinitely banned last year. The ban was imposed following controversial remarks he made about the late House Speaker David Ralston. Despite the ban, Moore sought to participate in a joint session of the legislature, which was set to be addressed by Governor Brian Kemp.
As Moore approached the chamber, he was met by resistance from a doorman. Undeterred, Moore argued that he had a constitutional right to enter and insisted that the doorman was violating the law by blocking him. The situation escalated when Moore refused to back down, leading to a physical altercation.
Video footage of the incident shows Moore being pushed to the ground by one of the doormen as he tried to force his way into the chamber. Shortly thereafter, the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) intervened, restraining Moore and escorting him away in handcuffs. He was charged with willful obstruction of law enforcement officers, a misdemeanor, and taken to Fulton County Jail.
The GSP issued a statement explaining their actions: “Despite multiple verbal warnings and several attempts to de-escalate the situation, Senator Moore persisted in his attempts to disrupt official proceedings inside the House Chamber. The disturbance escalated further when Senator Moore pushed into troopers multiple times.”
Moore’s office released a statement framing the incident as politically motivated, claiming: “Senator Colton Moore, who exposed and defeated corrupt Fani Willis last year, has been arrested by the Anti-Trump Speaker of the Georgia House. Colton is being held in the same Atlanta jail as President Trump. We are working to ensure his expedient release. Please pray for all those standing up for freedom and peace for all Georgians.”
The arrest follows a letter Moore sent to the current House Speaker Jon Burns, asserting that the ban was unconstitutional. In the letter, Moore warned that he intended to attend the joint session regardless of the ban.
After his release from jail, Moore shared a video from a hospital, thanking his supporters: “Thank you to all the patriots who have shown their support today. I have a Constitutional duty and will be back in the legislature tomorrow.
The incident has sparked a mix of reactions, with some praising Moore for standing up for his beliefs, while others criticize his actions as disruptive and unlawful. The legal and political ramifications of the confrontation are likely to continue unfolding in the coming days.
