The 1975 and Olivia Rodrigo will headline the 2025 Glastonbury Festival.
According to promoters, the British band The 1975 and American pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo will be the main acts at this summer’s Glastonbury Festival. Somerset, UK will host the festival, which is renowned for its legendary performances and wide range of musical styles. The festival’s second stage will provide an interesting lineup for attendees, with Charli XCX performing as the main artist on Saturday, June 28th, alongside Rodrigo and The 1975.
For a number of musicians, the event also represents a significant turning point. Gracie Abrams, Doechii, Alanis Morissette, Noah Kahan, and Lola Young will all make their Glastonbury debuts. In addition to returning favorites Wolf Alice, Wet Leg, Fatboy Slim, Loyle Carner, and Scissor Sisters, Doechii, a rising talent in the US rap scene, will take center stage at West Holts.
Rock superstar Neil Young, who will play as the festival’s main act on Saturday night, and the legendary Rod Stewart, who will perform on Sunday afternoon in the “legend slot,” which is a moniker bestowed to a well-known performer later in the weekend, have already been announced.
Glastonbury’s First Headliner Slot in 1975
The Cheshire band The 1975 has experience playing at festivals. Since 2016, they have performed as the main act at big festivals like Reading and Leeds on multiple occasions, but this year’s Glastonbury show will be their first time taking center stage at the renowned occasion.
The band, which combines dance-rock, electronica, and experimental sounds, has a devoted fan base thanks to their catchy songs and distinctive musical style. With a blend of humor and reflection, their lyrics frequently touch on contemporary relationships, the digital era, and individual hardships. Matty Healy, the lead singer, is renowned for his audacious and even contentious live performances. Healy has started interacting with the audience by employing Auto-Tune and doing stunts like chewing raw steak in their recent performances.
These antics have generated discussion even though they may also draw condemnation. As a protest against the severe anti-LGBT legislation in Malaysia, the band is actually being sued by the festival organizers following a performance in which Healy kissed a bandmate on stage. Notwithstanding the controversy, the band has a loyal following thanks to their distinctive and thought-provoking style.
The band’s Glastonbury appearance has received high marks from Nick Grimshaw of BBC 6 Music, who says, “They have great taste and great vision,” and predicts that their show will be something exceptional. He went on, “They’ll do a bespoke show.”
Olivia Rodrigo Creates History as the Headliner at Glastonbury
Another well-known figure making waves this year is Olivia Rodrigo. She is only 22 years old, making her the first 2020s headliner and the second-youngest in Glastonbury’s history, behind 2022 headliner Billie Eilish. Even though Rodrigo has only released two albums, her relatable pop-punk hits, like “Good 4 U” and “Brutal,” as well as her heartfelt ballads, like “Driver’s License” and “Vampire,” have had a significant influence.
Rodrigo’s latest Guts tour brought in $186 million in ticket sales, demonstrating her strength as a live performer. She will also be the main act at London’s Hyde Park’s BST festival, which takes place right before Glastonbury.
Fans may recall Rodrigo’s 2022 Glastonbury performance, in which she unexpectedly led British singer Lily Allen in a performance of “F You,” a song devoted to the US Supreme Court judges who had just ruled against the country’s fundamental right to an abortion. A dramatic moment was created by the performance, and this year’s set is sure to be equally unforgettable.
Charli XCX: An Up-and-Coming British Star
In addition, Charli XCX will perform on Saturday as the main act at the Other Stage. Charli is one of the top pop stars in the UK and has won numerous Brit Awards. Charli will no longer have to perform in a way that is broadcast-friendly after establishing herself with her experimental and hedonistic pop style.
Beginning with the Silver Hayes dance arena in 2014, Charli’s journey through Glastonbury’s lesser stages has reached a major turning point with this performance. In reference to her early Glastonbury debut, she said, “I was really sick, and I forgot to wear a bra on stage, which was good!” Despite a tumultuous moment during her performance, Charli has a devoted following thanks to her lively and amusing presentations.
An Unmissable Festival
This year’s Glastonbury is looking to be one of the most remarkable in recent memory because of the lineup’s diversity and excitement. There is something for everyone at the event, including rock icons, up-and-coming artists, pop-punk choruses, and experimental electronica. Glastonbury aims to provide music lovers of all ages with an experience they won’t soon forget.
