The biggest opportunity for the West on the eve of the League of Legends Worlds is G2 Esports. The current European champion presents himself with legitimate goals in South Korea, where they will be competing against the finest Chinese and local teams. The club’s French ADC, Steven “Hans sama” Liv, discusses his finally successful year, his development in this specialized training, and the arduous journey to these Worlds.
What’s it like to develop within this G2 team that has players at the highest levels in every position, strong personalities, and lofty goals?
The fact that everyone is so strong impressed me the most when I first came. And I’m not only referring to the players; I also mean the staff. Everybody is excellent in their job. I only have good things to say about my coworkers at G2. Everything has been carefully planned and organized. We are all hard workers and expectants. Nobody ever comes off as unmotivated. Collectively, we are committed to progress.
Is this not similar to something you have gone through before?
No, I’ve never been on a squad that was so dominant. in training, in particular. A day of scrims is very infrequently lost, we don’t leave anything behind, and we never quit up. Even when we get diverted or go behind schedule, we persevere. Although I wasn’t used to it, this is now usual. It’s a constant mental condition that influences how we behave during official competitions in a favorable way. This year, we are doing something very special. Regarding level, synergy, and activities outside of the game… However, the beat is now stronger than it was.
When everything around us is of a high caliber and we ourselves must always live up to it, do we place any kind of pressure on ourselves?
We more or less have blind trust in one another, so not really. If I can’t carry this squad in a game, I know someone else on the team can. Each person is powerful on their own. This is a great value since, even in the draft stage, we arouse dread. We all have our strong recommendations, but we can’t leave them behind. Hard to switch off. Really, this squad is remarkable. We have a limited amount of potential…
I believe I have so much more to accomplish.
How would you rate your own performance so far this season?
I am happy with what I have to give, and I like our style as well. We play forcefully, both individually and as a team, and we provide a lot of pressure to the map. The search for opportunities is simpler. But the risk is higher.
Do you believe that your participation on this squad is bringing you closer to your “final form”?
Actually, no. Most importantly, I feel like I can still do so much more.
What parts of the game do you believe this is?
There are numerous items. Take, for instance, the speed with which I play. Additionally, I can get better at reading the game and taking opportunities to gain the upper hand. I’m trying to guide my jungler and my support on the lower portion of the map as I take on more and more responsibility there.
I talk a lot and take the lead in things, but I can still do better in this regard. In summary, thanks to soloq (individual online games) and bootcamps (training sessions) in South Korea, my ability as an ADC can continue to rise… After a year of tragedy, the time I spent here at the end of 2022 was really beneficial to me. I believed the flame was still within me.
Compared to last season, do you appreciate playing this one?
Such. Over the past seven years, there have been times in my profession when I didn’t feel it. I’m giving it my best right now, and I enjoy playing single and in teams. League of Legends occupies a lot of my thoughts; it is a top priority. And I haven’t always thought that way. It occurs. I just want to be the best right now. And I received my first awards! But I think I can rise even more.
G2 – Dplus KIA (South Korea, n°4) will compete on the first day of the Worlds this Thursday, October 19, at roughly 11 a.m.
