THE CRENSHAW DISTRICT IN LOS ANGELES (KABC) — In Los Angeles, California, the annual Taste of Soul festival draws over 300,000 attendees, making it the Mecca of Black Culture and Business.
On October 21 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., the Taste of Soul Festival will be held for the 18th time.
The free event invites businesses to the area to provide food and services like health information, employment possibilities, educational materials, voter awareness, economic empowerment, and more.
The Los Angeles Sentinel executive publisher and chairman of Bakewell Media, Danny J. Bakewell, Sr., launched Taste of Soul 17 years ago.
Tiffany Haddish, a comedian and actress, has been chosen as the Taste of Soul Festival’s celebrity chair this year.
“We are honored to have Tiffany as part of this year’s Taste of Soul Family Festival,” said Danny J. Bakewell, Sr. There isn’t a greater chair or ambassador for this year’s event, in my opinion. Tiffany Haddish is undoubtedly a celebrity with a huge fan base, but she also belongs to us because she lives nearby. She works with companies and programs right here in the neighborhood.
The Los Angeles Sentinel’s 90th anniversary makes this year particularly noteworthy.
‘We’re honoring 90 years of providing readers the freshest news, various opinions, advocacy, expansion, and community service,’ said Bakewell. We should conclude this jubilee celebration with the Taste of Soul event.
Star Quest, a singing contest that highlights the range of talent in our communities, is back this year. R&B or gospel performers of all ages may submit their works, and the festival will feature the winning acts live.
Taste of Soul was founded to highlight the good facets of African American life, continued Bakewell. It’s about promoting enjoyment, respect, and appreciation of our neighborhood and one another in a respectful, peaceful, proud, and enjoyable environment.
