Manchester City, often known as Man City, halted their two-match Premier League losing streak on Saturday by defeating Brighton & Hove Albion at the Etihad Stadium. Man City won the treble last season.
Mouths were watering in anticipation of this matchup between two of the division’s best tacticians, but Man City soon established their dominance. Jeremey Doka quickly outran Pascal Gross and found Julián lvarez to give City the lead in the seventh minute of play, only seconds after flashing a shot wide of the goal.
Erling Haaland, who is unstoppable, scored from the edge of the box after the Seagulls were caught with the ball in their own half to increase Man City’s advantage inside of 20 minutes.
The team led by Pep Guardiola excels at maintaining control, and once they built up a two-goal advantage, they never seemed like giving it up. Ederson was abruptly substituted in favor of Stefan Ortega, who had little to do in net as Roberto De Zerbi’s team fought mightily to generate opportunities.

The hosts may have been guilty of becoming complacent because Brighton cut the deficit in half shortly after an incredible lvarez goal from close to the halfway line. Ansu Fati scored his second goal for the Seagulls after a characteristic Kaoru Mitoma dribbled into the box and Manuel Akanji’s terrible clearing increased the tenseness at the Etihad.
A double substitution helped City’s Premier League pursuit get back on track, as Rben Dias’ imposing presence at halftime strengthened the champions’ defense.
Brighton was frustrated because they were unable to score an equalizer, and Solly March’s apparent injury made matters worse. De Zerbe’s men continued to struggle even after Manuel Akanji was ejected for receiving a second yellow card late in stoppage time.
In the 99 years that this match has been played, the Seagulls have never won on the road. Additionally, they have lost all five of their recent games in all competitions.
