Playoffs in the Premier League this weekend – Newcastle United’s perspective on these other matches
Considering these weekend Premier League games.
observing the other matches from the viewpoint of Newcastle United.
Another crucial game awaits Eddie Howe and his team, this time away at West Ham.
Look over this weekend’s Premier League games and consider what Newcastle United supporters would like to happen and what outcomes are likely:
This is how the Premier League schedule looked on Saturday morning before this weekend’s games:
This weekend’s schedule of games on Saturday and Sunday is really intriguing.
On Saturday, 11 of the clubs that presently occupy the lowest 12 spots in the table will play.
The following Sunday’s Premier League games include eight teams, just one of which is not among the top eight.
Therefore, it is clear where the main focus will be in my most recent piece on Premier League fixtures.
Tottenham is the only team in the top eight that is currently in action, making up one of the twelve clubs.
They’ve had a kind of opening slate of games, and last weekend, after the VAR disaster, they delightfully made Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool cry with the scousers’ last-second own goal. If Spurs win at Luton in the early kickoff, they will momentarily take over as the top team.
Luton has shown flashes of life after a terrible start and four losses. After winning at Everton and drawing with Wolves at home, they dropped a crucial six-pointer against fellow promoted team Burnley on Tuesday. However, Luton put on a very respectable showing; they had 18 shots to Burnley’s 14, and they only fell short by one goal five minutes from the end. I believe they have a chance against Tottenham, who have given up six goals in their previous four Premier League games despite their wins. In order for Luton to succeed, they will need to play strong defense against a Spurs team that is suddenly prepared to attack.
Today’s afternoon matchup between Burnley and Chelsea is very intriguing. Their media colleagues were giddy with excitement because Chelsea had truly defeated Fulham 2-0. However, I believe Vincent Kompany would be upset if he didn’t get anything tonight, and I believe Burnley will at least earn a point to build on Tuesday’s significant victory at Luton.
After going five games without a loss to start the season, Brentford’s defeat at Newcastle United seemed to have done them in. They have now dropped three of their previous four games (to Newcastle, Everton, and Arsenal), while drawing at Forest. However, Brentford, who is much more capable than those recent results show, may find today to be ideal. They travel to Old Trafford to take on a Manchester United team that has dropped five of their previous six Premier League and Champions League games while giving up 14 goals. Erik ten Hag might be wondering when, rather than if, he will be fired after another defeat today.
Any result is possible in this interesting match between Brighton and Liverpool. Although Brighton’s performance has declined, Newcastle United would be delighted with a draw in this match.
Although they weren’t playing poorly, Wolves weren’t receiving the results or points they may have merited. They will have benefited greatly from their decisive 2-1 victory over Man City, and they are hoping to at least tie Villa at home in their neighborhood rivalry.
Arsenal vs. Man City is the final match of this weekend’s Premier League games, and after losses to Newcastle and Wolves, Guardiola’s club is no longer as fearsome. I believe Arsenal will at least achieve a draw, but whether it results in all three points is still up in the air. Arteta will be thinking this is a tremendous opportunity for a huge win.
Of course, Sunday’s game at the Olympic Stadium is the only one that matters significantly this weekend.
Eddie Howe’s team may start seriously challenging for the top of the standings if they can win four straight Premier League games. We would be well-positioned going into the upcoming international fortnight if we could win and make it six wins and a tie in our previous seven games (across all competitions).
