In his remarks to the Congressional Black Caucus on Saturday night in Washington, D.C., President Biden blamed a group of “extreme Republicans” for Congress’ so far inability to come to an agreement to prevent a government shutdown and political violence.
At the annual awards banquet for the CBC Foundation 52nd Annual Legislative Conference National Town Hall, both the president and Vice President Harris made speeches.
In her speech, Harris said that the CBC is “leading the fight for reproductive freedom. similar to how you continue to lead the civil rights movement. And yes, I absolutely think that a civil right is the right to safety. Gun violence, however, is currently the leading cause of death for children in America. But rather than defending our Extremists impede children and women.
Also criticized by the vice president were Florida officials for “intending to tell our children that enslaved people benefited from slavery.” She was bringing up a contentious passage in Florida’s new African American history curriculum that talks about “how slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit.”
