The lineup also has 30 caps on average.
Gio Reyna, a midfielder for the United States men’s national team, plays in his first match since breaking a bone against Canada in the Concacaf Nations League Final on June 18.
Yunus Musah, a midfielder, becomes just the fourth member of the USMNT to reach 30 caps before turning 21 (20 years, 319 days). He surpasses Landon Donovan (20 years, 320 days) by one day to become the third-youngest player to accomplish the accomplishment.

Weston McKennie, Christian Pulisic, Chris Richards, Tim Weah, Folarin Balogun, Sergio Dest, Yunus Musah, Joe Scally, and Gio Reyna are the only members of the Starting XI who are 25 years old or younger.
Tim Ream, who just turned 36 on October 5th, is the 10th field player to be selected for the USMNT after turning 36. The last time a field player 36 or older played for the USMNT was on September 5, 2001, when 38-year-old Preki Radosavljevic came off the bench in the 71st minute of a World Cup
qualifying match against Costa Rica. The last time a field player 36 or older began for the USMNT was on February 21, 1999, when Thomas Dooley, at 37, played in his farewell game against Chile.
Ream follows Fernando Clavijo (31 caps), Dooley (15 caps), and Preki (2 caps) as the only field players to have received a USMNT cap after turning 36 in the contemporary period (1990-present).
Tonight marks Christian Pulisic’s 18th time serving as USMNT captain. When Pulisic is the captain, the squad is 13-1-3, with the lone loss coming in his debut game’s 1-0 loss to Italy on November 20, 2018.

Folarin Balogun, a striker for the USMNT, is starting his sixth straight game.
While seasoned players Tim Ream and Weston McKennie each make their tenth appearance against a European national team, Balogun and Scally make their maiden international debuts versus UEFA competition.
Tim Ream and Chris Richards will team up in center defense once more tonight; they already did so in St. Louis’ 3-0 victory over Uzbekistan earlier this month.
There are five starters with connections to the German Bundesliga. While Weston McKennie (Schalke), Christian Pulisic (Borussia Dortmund), and Chris Richards (Hoffenheim, Bayern Munich) have lived in Germany in the past, Gio Reyna (Borussia Dortmund) and Joe Scally (Borussia Mönchengladbach) presently compete in the German first division.
Against European opposition, four starters have scored goals. Tim Weah scored the opening goal in the USA’s 1-1 draw against Wales at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar on November 21, 2022, and Weston McKennie netted the game-winning goal in the USA’s tense 1-1 draw against Portugal on November 14, 2017, just 21 minutes into his international debut. Gio Reyna and Christian Pulisic also scored in the USA’s 2-1 victory over Northern Ireland on March 28, 2021.
Lenny Maloney, a German-born midfielder, would become the third player in USMNT history to make his debut against the nation of his birth if he came off the bench today, after Jerry Panek (August 3, 1973 vs. Poland) and Terry Springthorpe (June 8, 1953 vs. England).
The debut of Maloney, if he receives a cap, would be the 60th under Gregg Berhalter, who would then tie Bob Bradley for second place among USMNT head coaches in terms of debuts.

Bob Bradley | 60 | 80 |
Gregg Berhalter | 59 | 62 |

Cameron Carter-Vickers would make his maiden USMNT appearance if he came off the bench today following his impressive showing against IR Iran in the World Cup group stage finale on November 29, 2022.
Pulisic (40 G+A; 26 goals, 14 assists) will take sole ownership of fifth place on the USMNT’s all-time goal contributions leaderboard with his subsequent goal or assist.
As the head coach of the USMNT, Gregg Berhalter has a 39-11-12 record in 62 games. He also has the highest winning percentage (.726) and unbeaten record (.823) among all coaches who have overseen at least eight games.
Berhalter has a 2-2-3 record while against UEFA opposition.
Five of the six starts were from MLS Academies: Weston McKennie and Chris Richards from FC Dallas, Gio Reyna and Joe Scally from New York City FC, Tim Weah from the New York Red Bulls, and Christian Pulisic from the PA Classics. Six players are graduates of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy.
In 11 games overall versus Germany, the USMNT has a 4-7-0 record. The two teams haven’t faced off since the USA defeated Germany 2-1 on June 10, 2015 in Cologne.
Three different occasions each allow for a total of six substitutions. Halftime is not a moment for substitution.
Mexico’s Fernando Guerrero will officiate today’s game. In games that Guerrero has officiated, the USA is 0-1-1. He previously oversaw the 2-0 loss to Brazil in a friendly on September 7, 2018 in East Rutherford, New Jersey, as well as the 1-1 tie with Panama in the Gold Cup group stage on July 8, 2017 in Nashville, Tennessee.
