Switchblade Unleashed: The Flying Car That Redefines ‘Fast Lane

Imagine a revolutionary car that, in a matter of minutes, can go from cruising down the road to flying over the heavens. That’s exactly what the creative brains of Samson Sky, an Oregon-based firm, have accomplished with their invention—the flying car known as the Switchblade. Within the next few years, this futuristic kind of transportation should be available to the general public.

The creator of Switchblade and CEO of Samson Sky, Sam Bousfield, imagines a world in which travel never ends. The Switchblade provides an option to deal with bad weather and annoying traffic; you can drive outside or take to the sky to avoid traffic jams and get where you’re going quickly.

The Switchblade gets its name from its distinctive design, which resembles the quick movement of a switchblade when it’s time to switch to flying mode. With 26 years of experience as an architect, Bousfield started experimenting with ideas near the end of his career. He envisaged transportation in the future taking to the sky, which eventually resulted in the development of the Switchblade.

What distinguishes the Switchblade from its forerunners? With pride, Bousfield lists three unique features: first, it’s a real flying car that can switch between driving and flying modes with ease; second, it performs well in both capacities; and third, it’s made to be useful for daily usage.

A test flight conducted recently at an airstrip in Moses Lake, Washington, showcased the capabilities of the Switchblade, marking a noteworthy milestone for the aircraft. The automobile had previously been able to perform brief touch-and-go maneuvers while off the ground, but this test was the first time it had done so for a considerable amount of height and time. Bousfield describes the flight, saying, “We took off from the airport, went up 500 feet off the ground, and flew what’s called a pattern: a circle around to where you leave the runway, you circle the airport, and you come back into land on that same runway.” Before landing, the Switchblade stayed in the air for an astounding six minutes. Gazing proudly from the ground, Bousfield’s 15-year invention triumphantly took off and touched down.

More than 2,300 reservations for the Switchblade have been made from 57 nations and all 50 states, demonstrating the explosive demand for the device. To drive this three-wheeled vehicle, prospective pilots will need a pilot’s license; but, if they would rather keep their adventures on the ground, a conventional driver’s license will do.

Samson Sky’s statement states that the Switchblade has remarkable speed capabilities, with ground speeds of up to 125 mph and air speeds of an incredible 190 mph. This state-of-the-art car is expected to start at roughly $170,000.

Bousfield and his colleagues at Samson Sky intend to proceed with the construction of three distinct prototypes in the near future. The purpose of the extensive testing that these prototypes will receive is to find and fix any possible defects. It is projected that production of the Switchblade will begin in around two years, bringing in a new era of transportation in which driving and flying become seamless, thrilling experiences.
