Jamie White, a journalist for the far-right website Infowars, was reportedly shot and killed late Sunday night outside his residence in Austin, Texas, according to Infowars founder Alex Jones.
During a Monday afternoon broadcast, Jones announced that White, whom he described as one of his “best” reporters, had been “brutally murdered.” He blamed local Democratic leaders for rising crime rates and accused them of failing to curb violence, calling them “demons.”
However, authorities have yet to verify White’s death. The Austin Police Department confirmed they responded to an emergency call at 11:57 p.m. on Sunday, discovering an unidentified man with “obvious signs of trauma.” The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. Officials have not released his name, and there has been no independent confirmation of White’s identity beyond Jones’ statements.
Jones’ Claims and Political Accusations
During his broadcast, Jones blamed Democratic politicians, including Travis County District Attorney José Garza, for crime in Austin, claiming their policies have made the city unsafe.
“I come to the Infowars family of viewers and listeners, and to the world, with some really horrible news,” Jones stated in a post on X. “Jamie White was murdered last night outside his home, just a few miles from our studios.”
He further alleged that Infowars staff became concerned when White did not answer his phone Monday morning. Upon visiting his apartment complex, they reportedly found police tape and blood in the parking lot.
Jones credited law enforcement for their swift response but did not speculate on who may have been responsible for White’s killing. However, he squarely placed the blame on Democratic policies and figures such as billionaire George Soros, a frequent target of conspiracy theorists.
Political Controversy Surrounding the Case
Jones directly accused progressive leaders, including District Attorney Garza, of contributing to the city’s crime problems. Garza was elected in 2020 with financial backing from a Super PAC supported by Soros, a philanthropist known for funding progressive causes. The district attorney has been a focal point of criticism from right-wing figures, including Elon Musk, who reportedly helped finance an unsuccessful effort to unseat him.
Despite Jones’ allegations, no official statement has been issued linking White’s death to local policies or political figures. Authorities have not provided any information regarding potential suspects or motives.
As the investigation continues, Infowars has stated that its staff is taking time to grieve White’s passing. Meanwhile, law enforcement has urged the public to await official updates as they work to identify the victim and determine the circumstances of the shooting.
